Position Summary
The Support Teacher provides targeted, small-group and individual instructional support to students in social-emotional learning (SEL) and mathematics, working alongside classroom teachers to strengthen outcomes for all learners, including students who need additional scaffolding to access grade-level instruction. This position directly supports the goals of Chimacum Creek Primary's School Improvement Plan (SIP), contributing to a whole-child, developmentally responsive learning environment and to collaborative, data-informed instruction across the school.
Supervision and Controls over the Work
The employee works with a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of a designated school administrator. The employee’s work is governed, controlled, and evaluated by acceptable professional practice, school and district policies and regulations, provisions of Washington Administrative Code and Revised Code of Washington, direction of the supervisor, and performance standards and expectations as set forth in the collective bargaining agreement.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education
Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field.
- Certification Required: Current Washington State Teacher’s Certificate (Early Childhood endorsement preferred)
- Experience
Experience in inclusive learning settings is strongly preferred. Familiarity with inclusive practices and differentiated instruction is highly valued.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Social-Emotional Learning Support
- Provide direct instruction and coaching to individual students and small groups on self-regulation, social problem-solving, and emotional awareness skills.
- Support implementation of whole-child, play-based learning practices in classrooms, consistent with the SIP's developmental learning goal.
- Partner with classroom teachers to identify students who would benefit from additional SEL support and co-develop strategies for the classroom setting.
- Help maintain a positive, inclusive classroom and school climate that supports student belonging and engagement.
- lead de-escalation support when principal is at other sites
Mathematics Support
- Deliver small-group and individual math intervention and enrichment aligned to current classroom instruction and grade-level standards.
- Use ongoing progress-monitoring data to adjust groupings, pacing, and instructional strategies for students receiving math support.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers on differentiated math instruction for students below, at, and above grade-level expectations.
Collaboration and Data Use
- Participate actively in Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings
- Bring student-level SEL and math data to PLC discussions to help teams identify trends and plan targeted next steps.
- Communicate regularly with classroom teachers, specialists, and families regarding student progress in supported areas.
Other Duties
- Maintain accurate records of services provided, student progress, and intervention data.
- Participate in school-wide initiatives connected to the SIP, staff meetings, and relevant professional development.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Valid Washington State teaching certificate (or eligibility to obtain one).
- Experience or coursework in early childhood/primary education, social-emotional learning, and/or elementary mathematics instruction.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with young children individually and in small groups.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills for working within a PLC/team-based instructional model.
- Safety Care Deescalation Training (or willingness to train)
Preferred
- Experience with play-based or whole-child instructional approaches.
- Familiarity with SEL curricula and elementary math intervention programs.
- Experience using student data (developmental, literacy, and/or math) to inform instructional decisions.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Standard primary school classroom and small-group instructional settings; may include movement between classrooms throughout the school day.
This position supports Chimacum Creek Primary School's 2026–2027 School Improvement Plan, including its goals for whole-child, developmental play-based learning and structured PLC collaboration using a data triangle protocol across developmental, literacy, and math domains.

It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious diseases as carried by students.
The employee may be required to travel on school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
