Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The responsibilities listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. This position is expected to comply with all Chimacum School District policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable OSPI and state regulations. Instruction & Curriculum
- Provide direct instruction in high school mathematics and science courses aligned with Washington State standards and graduation requirements.
- Design and implement project-based learning (PBL) experiences that integrate math, science, and real-world problem solving.
- Develop interdisciplinary learning opportunities connecting STEM concepts to career pathways and community-based projects.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of Alternative Learning and Open Doors students.
- Deliver instruction consistent with OSPI Alternative Learning regulations, including individualized learning plans and flexible instructional models.
Student Support & Case Management
- Serve as a learning plan manager for assigned students, supporting goal setting, academic progress monitoring, and individualized learning plans.
- Maintain consistent student contact as required by Alternative Learning program guidelines.
- Track, document, and report credit accumulation, math/science competency, and student progress.
- Collaborate with counselors, administrators, special education staff, and support services.
Community Partnerships & Applied Learning
- Develop community partnerships that support STEM-based, project-based, and work-based learning opportunities.
- Coordinate learning experiences with district and community partners to support applied math and science learning.
- Support students in accessing career exploration and applied STEM learning experiences.
Program Compliance & Professional Responsibilities
- Support compliance with Alternative Learning and Open Doors program requirements.
- Maintain accurate student records in accordance with district and OSPI requirements.
- Demonstrate commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
- Participate in professional learning and required training.
- Attend requested IEP Meetings.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging math and science instruction connected to real-world applications.
- Provide ongoing case management and student support.
- Maintain student progress documentation and reporting.
- Communicate regularly with students and families.
- Participate in program development and collaboration.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervising principal.

- The Pi Program empowers families to participate in their children’s education. It is a flexible program aimed at students who wish to live life to the fullest. Less constraining than more conventional school programs, Pi allows students greater opportunities for pursuing their personal interests. It allows these interests to be more effectively integrated into their lives.
- Pi’s education philosophy is that every student has unique strengths and the ability to succeed in meaningful ways. With plenty of family and school support, an individual learning plan can be developed which will allow the student to make the most of his or her talents, allowing them to become strong students and successful people. Instead of doing all the work on campus, they do much of it at home. Some Pi classes are held at off-campus locations. Pi is an Alternative Learning Environment (ALE) program, and is subject to compliance with state laws and regulations.
- Washington State teaching certificate and appropriate Endorsements in content areas specific to the position required. Additional endorsements preferred such as foreign language, music, etc.
Supervision and Controls over the Work
The employee works with a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of a designated school administrator. The employee’s work is governed, controlled, and evaluated by acceptable professional practice, school and district policies and regulations, provisions of Washington Administrative Code and Revised Code of Washington, direction of the supervisor, and performance standards and expectations as set forth in the collective bargaining agreement.
Qualifications
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with Math and Science endorsement
- Ability to differentiate instruction and support diverse learners.
- Experience teaching in alternative education, project-based learning, or STEM settings preferred.
- Demonstrated success working with at-risk or disengaged youth.
- Skilled at adapting instruction to diverse learning needs and interests.
- Proven ability to design and facilitate hands-on, career-focused learning.
- Leadership skills for building new programs and partnerships with community organizations.
- Experience working with wraparound service providers to support student success.
- Ability to integrate technology into experiential and mobile learning activities.
- Experience working with at-risk or disengaged youth.
- Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and place-based learning.
- Ability to manage online learning management systems.
- Willingness to participate in professional development, district/state workshops, and training.
- Experience working with at-risk, alternative learning, or non-traditional student populations.
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively with both high school and elementary-aged students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Willingness to pursue a CTE Teaching Certificate in a CTE Science Equivalency Program
- Experience developing or coordinating community-based partnerships and applied learning programs.
- Familiarity with OSPI Alternative Learning and Open Doors (1418) program requirements.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in school, alternative learning, and approved community-based instructional settings.
- Flexible scheduling may be required to meet student, program, and community partner needs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, or consistent with the subject being taught, but can be abnormally loud on occasion.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions and be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature fluctuations, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals commonly used in instruction and/or cleaning. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials during the course of their duties. The employee may be exposed to infectious disease as carried by students.
The employee may be required to travel on school owned or leased vehicles while supervising and assisting students.
